Our Emission Reduction Programmes
The project provided DEWA with an extensive analysis of the company’s carbon emissions. Creation of a system that continuously monitors controls and manages GHG emissions. Facilitation of the development of an emission reduction plan and policy.
The final result was a fully fledged emission reduction strategy for DEWA to support a low carbon economy.
The project aimed to support Dubal’s ongoing initiatives towards carbon emission reductions. The project team supported the process of allocating responsibility of emissions across the organization to achieve carbon reduction targets. A weeklong awareness campaign was also created on the topic of energy industry.
The final result was a carbon management strategy update including a carbon calculator, green balanced scorecard and emission allocation throughout the entity.
The project for du consisted of a comprehensive carbon emission baseline from the year 2012, which can be monitored on a yearly basis and improved upon. The transfer of knowledge in the form of involvement of nominated team members included throughout the calculation process, and through the provision of a carbon calculator enabled the team within du the ability to evaluate their emission reduction efforts internally in the future.
The final result included a carbon emission baseline for the year 2012, along with specific Green KPIs in the form of a Green Balanced Scorecard, and a carbon calculator specific to du’s activities
Our Green Strategies

Dubai Carbon was commissioned to analyse, benchmark and issue recommendations on sustainability and carbon management. The project analyzed sustainability and carbon management strategies of relevant mega events and identified a draft operational plan for sustainability reporting and implementation of the ISO 20121 event management standard. Dubai Carbon also calculated the estimated emissions of the event in three scenarios (pre, during and post), and the analysis was complemented with a customized emission reduction strategy, an analysis of available registration frameworks and recommendations.

The final outcomes of the project included recommendations on sustainability reporting and carbon management strategy, an operational plan for Dubai Expo 2020 to follow in line with a specific Toolkit to obtain ISO 20121, and a customised emission reduction strategy along with analysis of available registration framework and recommendations on the establishment of a Dubai specific market mechanism.

The project included a number of activities Dubai Carbon proposed to enable Dubai Police to achieve energy efficiency, obtain fuel savings, and understand carbon offsetting and renewable energy production. The project was based on a few key objectives including:
1. Development of strategies to reduce the carbon footprint
2. Diversify energy resources and build carbon related capacities
3. Identify potential areas of improvement for energy and resource efficiency
4. Benchmark themselves internationally and align with international best practices

The key outcomes of this project included capacity building on the topic areas of climate change and carbon emissions, development of a specific carbon calculator to Dubai Police’s activities, develop a Monitoring, Reporting & Verification Platform and the conceptualization of a waste management strategy.

Emirates Transport staff were empowered through a capacity building session on carbon management, which provided project support throughout. The Carbon Emission Baseline was calculated for the year, 2012, along with a monitoring system identified for yearly updates of the carbon emission baseline. The final element was an emission reduction strategy highlighting the potential for operational improvements and an implementation plan.

The final outcomes of the project included an emission baseline, knowledge transfer throughout Emirates Transport, and recommendations on operational improvements for the long term strategy.

For AL Ghurair Foods and Resources, a resource audit to identify the GHG sources and estimation of the emissions based on the available data. An awareness session was conducted to transfer knowledge to nominated employees and to provide a foundation of the discussion for the carbon footprint. Green KPIs and a carbon calculator was created to enable the integration of the work to Al Ghurair’s business culture for future strategic decisions, and to enable the company to conduct annual updates.
