UAE Ministry of Energy Signs Three year MoU with Dubai Carbon

The UAE Ministry of Energy signed today a 3-year MOU with the Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellence (DCCE) to jointly prepare a state of energy report for the UAE. The MOU has been signed in line with UAE’s strategy and pursuit of leadership in the energy sector by demonstrating best practices and documenting the most important national activities in the field of energy.
HE Dr Mattar Hamed Al Neyadi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy, has signed the MOU on behalf of the Ministry while HE Waleed Salman, Chairman of DCCE, has signed on behalf of DCCE.

In this regard, HE the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy noted that the State of Energy Report in the UAE will shed light on the key steps taken by the UAE in its effort to adopt a policy for diversification of energy sources and reduction of carbon emissions. His Excellency expressed the Ministry’s aspirations and hope that the Report will become a reference book documenting best practices and success stories in the UAE as well as disseminating information on UAE experiences and initiatives in the energy sector, to enable others to benefit from the success stories which characterised the UAE.

The undersecretary added that ““The State of Energy Report 2015 will focus on the concerted efforts of the UAE in the field of renewable energy and climate change where the UAE is deemed to be the prime stimulator for investment in renewables and use of low-carbon technology in the region as well as being a global forum for cooperation and dialogue on sustainable development and reduction of emissions. To demonstrate the UAE’S vision 2021 of diversification of energy sources, securing energy supplies and achieving balanced growth of sustainable energy sources including alternative and renewable energy sources, efforts are currently under way to raise the contribution of clean energy sources up to 24% of the overall energy in the UAE.

HE Waleed Salman, DCCE Chairman said that “the existence of a strong network of partners and supporters presents a unique and beneficial opportunity for gathering data, information and trends to be included in a joint report to serve the energy sector in the UAE and the region. His Excellency added that “the partnership of the public and private sector in the UAE is a unique partnership which will facilitate the preparation of the State of Energy Report and thus realise its objectives of becoming a source of information and standardised benchmarking comparisons”.

For her part, H.E. Fatima Al Foora Al Shamsi, Assistant Undersecretary for Electricity Affairs at the Ministry also pointed out that “Preparing the State of Energy Report comes in keeping with the vision of the Ministry of Energy to create a community which preserves its natural resources and enhances the use of renewable and sustainable energy through diversification of energy resources and rationalisation of energy and water consumption”.
The ceremony held in Dubai was also attended by HE Saeed Al Tayer, Vice-Chairman of the Supreme Council of Energy and MD/CEO of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) and H.E. Dr. Thani Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, UAE Ambassador Extraordinary Plenipotentiary and Director of the Directorate of Climate Change and Energy Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
