Dubai, UAE: 6 January 2013: After the successful registration for carbon credits of a Dubai-wide initiative for energy efficiency, the Dubai Carbon Centre opens the application for title sponsor and supporters. The initiative foresees the distribution of highly energy-efficient Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL) bulbs to Dubai households in order to reduce their carbon emissions from electricity consumption. As this will be free of charge to the consumers, companies leading Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability matters in the UAE will finance the initiative.

The Dubai CFL Initiative was the first ever project in Dubai to be registered under the United Nations Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) in August, and appreciates the support of the UNDP and complies with HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s Initiative ‘Green Economy for Sustainable Development’ launched January 2012.

The initiative already hit the headlines on Sunday January 6th, when UAE daily THE NATIONAL reported on its front page and is expected to attract large involvement for the media and public.

“Dubai Carbon offers the opportunity for public and private entities to be part of this UN approved initiative whilst benefiting from the financial return of the carbon credits and the gratitude of Emirates business acumen” Ivano Iannelli, CEO of Dubai Carbon stated. “Entities providing accommodation to their staff will also save costs in electricity. It is a true win-win situation for Dubai’s economy.”
