The biennial GLOBE conference, which took place from 26th – 28th March 2014, provided provoking insights on the World’s most pressing energy and sustainability-related issues. Environmental business leaders, corporate environmental manager and sustainability practitioners came together in Vancouver, Canada to explore the varying goals of corporate sustainability, business, growth, energy and climate change solutions and urban development.

In line with Expo 2020, Dubai is becoming a global innovation hub and showcasing this growth on an international platform will allowed for discussions which emphasize on the efforts and progress Dubai and UAE continues to make in line with Green Economy.

Globe is a fully integrated event with a comprehensive conference program as well as a world-class trade fair and technology exposition. The Globe Conference is not technical in its nature, yet provides a strategic platform where best practices can be discussed and shared. Globe brings together leaders from different sectors as they often face similar challenges and the conference allows for international scope.

Dubai is involved in Globe in many ways including the exhibition stand where success stories were shared through stakeholder engagements, the Green Economy Partnership and projects and initiatives undertaken throughout the Emirate. The spotlight was placed on Dubai in a panel discussion on the “The Transition to a Green Economy” consisting of representatives from the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, Green Economy Partnership and Dubai Carbon, amongst others. It highlighted Dubai’s progress towards a sustainable green economy, and becoming a global gateway for green trade and investment, connecting developed, emerging and developing markets together.

Waleed Salman, Chairman of the Green Economy Partnership and Chairman of Dubai Carbon, stated, “Dubai is fast progressing towards a sustainable green economy, a smart city and a global gateway for green trade and investment, connecting developed, emerging and developing markets. This will help accelerate the adoption of green technologies, products and services in a region of over 2.2 Billion consumers. Being present at GLOBE has been an ideal platform for us to showcase these positive strides and share the vision of the green future ahead”.

Solaiman Al Rifai, Director of Project Finance representing Dubai Carbon, enforced the importance of Green Economy and said “Creating a Green Economy in line with Sustainable Development is the over-arching umbrella of the continued activities and efforts Dubai and the UAE are undertaking. This initiative’s aims are threefold: to make the UAE one of the global pioneers in green economy, a hub for exporting and re-exporting green products and technologies, and a country preserving a sustainable environment that supports long-term economic growth.”
