Second UAE State of Energy Report announced

Dubai, United Arab Emirates: HE Eng. Suhail Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy, announced the second edition of the highly acclaimed UAE State of Energy Report. The report is set to be published on the occasion of ‘International World Energy Day’, on 22ndOctober 2015. The announcement was made amidst a packed house government officials and dignitaries, thought leaders and decision makers of the UAE energy sector. The high-level ceremony was held in the presence of HE Saeed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA).

HE Eng. Suhail Al Mazrouei, stated, “In Columbia, the UAE Ministry of Energy presented the report as part of its bidding process to host the World Energy Congress in 2019 in Abu Dhabi – which we have succeeded in achieving because of joint efforts from the teams of HE Dr. Matar Al Neyadi, Undersecretary for Energy and contributions of our esteemed partners.”

The first-ever UAE State of Energy Report 2015, was released in October 2014 in Cartagena, Columbia to the World Energy Council. It is the product of a partnership agreement between the Ministry of Energy and Dubai Carbon to develop a UAE-wide CO2 platform and publish the results in a report – the UAE State of Energy Report.

“The UAE state of energy report documents the UAE’s success stories in the energy sector and we are happy to share it with the world. The publication has proven to facilitate the exchange of ideas and to bring together the key players of the energy sector to work jointly towards a more efficient and future-proof industry”, said Eng. Waleed Salman, Chairman of Dubai Carbon.

As a knowledge sharing tool, the report catalyzes innovation and supports sustainable development of the federal energy sector. The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is contributing through international perspective and supports the project through quality assurance of all editorial via its energy and environment team.

Sayed Aqa, the UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP’s Resident Representative in the UAE, stated that “The Report launched today is the first of its kind in the region, addressing pressing energy issues covering work of both the public and the private sectors in the UAE”

Aqa also added, “This report is a reflection of the UAE’s leadership and political commitment to emerge as a center of innovation, investment, and technology for sustainable energy. UNDP is honored to be a part of this initiative with the Ministry of Energy and Dubai Carbon”.

The energy sector was represented by high level representatives of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), Emirates Global Aluminum (EGA), The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), Abu Dhabi National Energy Company PJSC (TAQA), Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority, Opower, Emirates National Oil Company Ltd (ENOC), Dolphin Energy Limited, Emirates Transport, Pöyry Switzerland Ltd, Dubai Municipality, Emrill, Emerson Commercial and Residential Solutions (InSinkErator).
