Dubai, UAE; 10 January 2013: The UAE Ministry of Environment and Water and the Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellence (DCCE) launched a UAE-wide Greenhouse Gas emission baseline and other awareness and capability building initiatives. The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed by H.E. Mohammed Obaid Al Zaabi, Deputy Assistant Undersecretary for Environmental Affairs and Eng. Waleed Salman, Chairman of DCCE in the presence H.E. Dr. Rashid Ahmad bin Fahad, Minister of Environment and Water and H.E. Saeed Al Tayer, in his role as Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE).
In the ceremony, H.E. the Minister furthermore recognized the successful registration of the first Dubai-based emission reduction projects under the United Nations Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), including the Dubai CFL Initiative, the 10MW Photovoltaic Plant, owned by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) and DSCE, the Regenerative Burners for Melting Furnaces, owned by Dubai Aluminum (DUBAL) and Waste Heat Recovery project owned by Union Cement Company (UCC).
