UN-backed report on dubai’s green credentials available now

Dubai’s green credentials have being recognised on a global scale, as the team of the World Green Economy Summit presented its findings in the inaugural State of Green Economy Report 2015.

The publication was launched on October 10th at the World Summit of Regions of Climate in Paris by HE Seaed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE) and MD and CEO of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) by presenting the first copy to Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The report showcases Dubai’s progress as a green economy, and takes into consideration initiatives undertaken by private and public companies, adoption of international best practices and the UN’s latest research and trends. It digests and summarises the important discourse started at the first World Green Economy Summit (WGES) from April 2014 and sets thematic impulses for the next summit announced to be held from 22nd – 23rd April 2015.

The report features six chapters, including smart cities and living, lifestyle and consumer choices, tourism, industries, and finance and investments. The United Nations Network contributed extensively to the content, with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the World Bank, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) featuring editorials. Further supra-national organizations including the UAE-based International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and the International Labour Organisation (ILO) also outlined their latest findings.

The report was developed by the Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellence (Dubai Carbon) in partnership with DEWA and DSCE for the World Green Economy Summit. The United Nations Development Programme as partner to both, the summit and the report, undertook quality assurance and peer review. The report was brought to life through collaborations with Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority, ENOC, Pacific Controls, Shell, EnPark, First Solar, Dubai FDI, Toshiba, ALEC and Cummins.

The report in soft copy is available on the website of Dubai Carbon (on www.dcce.ae/page/publications) and will be distributed at the World Green Economy Summit from 22nd – 23rd April 2015.
